A faster, more flexible board for software teams

The software board in team-managed spaces has been rebuilt on the same modern foundation as business boards, bringing along everything that was missing and a 22% faster load time. Your workflows aren’t changing, but the board underneath them is significantly better.

How it works

1. No more work item limits

The previous cap of 5,000 work items is gone. Boards now paginate at every level: work items, columns, and swimlanes all load as you scroll, so you can work through a large backlog without hitting a wall. Swimlanes have fixed heights for smoother scrolling, and the board loads faster overall. If your team has been splitting work across multiple boards just to stay under the limit, you don't need to anymore.

2. Organize your board the way you think

Swimlanes just got a refresh – with a cleaner, fixed-height layout and the same unified grouping options as business boards. Group your cards by epic, assignee, priority, category, or subtask to surface patterns a flat column layout can’t show. And now you can collapse and expand both columns and swimlanes, so you can focus on exactly what you need and hide the rest.

3. See subtasks right on the board

Work items with subtasks now display directly below the parent card in an expandable summary. You can see at a glance how many subtasks are done, expand the list to see each one, and even edit subtask fields inline without opening the work item. Enable or disable this through your board view settings depending on how much detail you want to see.

4. Edit without opening every card

You can now edit priority directly on the card, search and update parent work items inline, and make assignee changes without leaving the board. During a standup or sprint review, this means you can update several cards in a few seconds instead of opening and closing each one individually.

5. Customize how your cards look

The board now supports a wider range of standard and custom fields for card layout, including date fields, dropdowns, numbers, short text, and timestamps. Board theming also lets you customize the appearance and color scheme to make your team's board visually distinct.

6. Save a default board view for your team

Admins can configure the board (filters, grouping, collapsed columns, card options) and save it as the team's default – when someone opens the board, they start from that configuration. Team members can still personalize their own view on top of it, and if things get messy, a single click resets the board back to the team default. No more "my board looks different from yours" confusion.

How to get started

The next time you open your board in a team-managed software space, you'll see the updated experience automatically. Your existing column configuration, sprint setup, and workflows carry over.

For admins: This is an automatic migration for team-managed software spaces. Column configuration has moved from space settings to the board itself (board menu → Configure columns). Done-item clearing now defaults to "never" for new boards (existing boards are unaffected). Saved views let you set a team default that users can personalize or reset. Company-managed software spaces are not included in this release but are on the roadmap.
