Field suggestions when you create work
Creating work items is one of the most common things you do in Jira. Filling in all the fields can be the tedious part – and people might skip them. That leaves your work items half-filled, missing context, and harder to find, filter, and report on later.
Now Jira does the first pass for you. When you pick a space and fill in a summary, it suggests likely values for the fields you fill most – labels, assignee, parent, priority, components, and your custom single- and multi-select dropdowns – based on how similar work in that space has actually been filled out before.
Suggestions are just suggestions. Accept with a click, pick something else, or ignore it and keep typing. Nothing is ever filled in for you.
How it works
Based on your work, not generic guesses. Suggestions come from how your space has actually been used, so they reflect the real patterns in your team’s Jira, not a generic model’s best guess. They get better as your space builds up more work and more context.
Only when it’s confident. Jira surfaces a suggestion only when it thinks it’ll be useful. If it isn’t sure, it stays out of the way – so the create form doesn’t get noisy with low-value inputs.
Only ever what you can access. Suggestions respect permissions. Assignee suggestions only include people who can be assigned that work, parent stays within the same space, and custom options are limited to what your admins have configured.
Built into create. Suggestions appear right in the new create experience, a moment after you start describing the work – no extra step, nothing to enable per work item.
How to get started
Field suggestions are available with Rovo Enabled, and show up automatically in the new create experience when they’re relevant – there’s nothing else to turn on. If you don’t see them, Rovo may not be enabled for your site. Follow the steps outlined here to enable Rovo.

FAQs
Question | Answer |
|---|---|
Will fields be filled in for me automatically? | No. Suggestions are always optional. You accept, change, or ignore them. Nothing is set without you choosing it. |
Where do the suggestions come from? | How your space has actually been used before. They reflect your team’s real patterns, and improve as the space accumulates more work. |
Why don’t I see suggestions? | Field suggestions need Rovo enabled. If Rovo is enabled and you still don’t see them, the space may not have enough history yet for a confident suggestion. |
